Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid vs Toyota Prius Hybrid: space and practicality

Both are a similar shape and size, but the Toyota Prius just clinches it

The overall design of the Hyundai Ioniq is clearly inspired by the Toyota Prius; its fastback shape and focus on passenger and luggage space is very similar. It’s no wonder these cars often end up as private-hire vehicles – each is perfect for the airport run thanks to plentiful rear leg and headroom, plus a large, easily accessed boot.

Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid

While both are very practical, the Prius just edges the Ioniq. The Toyota’s 457-litre boot – expandable to 1,588 litres with the rear seats folded – trumps the Ioniq’s 443 and 1,505-litre measurements, even when taking a 45-litre reduction over the front-drive version’s boot into account. Both load areas are a good shape, however.

There’s a shade more space in the back of the Prius, despite the fact that the cars have the same wheelbase length.
